Validation

There's nothing like a little validation to make life easier. Many fights, disagreements, global warfare, and parental malfunctions could be fixed with some heartfelt validation on the part of those involved. For me it was a long drawn out disagreement with the universe at large and the entire world of publishing specifically.
Tonight I received a tiny taste of validation from the Verse. An agent that I have queried about my latest completed manuscript asked to see more of the story. Its a start. Three sample chapters to be exact, but hey! I'll take it.

Someone I don't know, who has never read my stuff or even heard my name, just showed interest in my novel based on a one page query letter. For me it validated my idea and my love of this particular story. That someone could take my few sentence of description and say, "you know that sounds like an interesting plot." I'll take it and yell out, "SHINY." (for the uninitiated: please refer to Firefly the TV series.)

I will sleep restlessly knowing that now someone I've never met, who knows nothing about me, will soon be reading my first three chapters and judging me, my work, my creativity and my very nature by what is written there. Arg. Still validation, makes people feel important so I'm going to focus on that warm fuzzy feeling from the universe that says, "Don't give up. Some day it will all be worth it and many people will enjoy what you have created." (I know that is a lot of validation for a 3 chapter sample writing, but I'm the one the universe is talking to and that's how I am interpreting it.)

  2. This is only the beginning for you! I can't wait to see your book on the shelves of a bookstore, right under the "Bestseller" sign!
